In the 329th general house meeting of the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation, the issue of the maintenance and cleanliness of parks was raised. Members of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) brought up these concerns. AAP councillor Damanpreet Singh questioned the state of cleanliness in the city’s parks and asked Mayor Anup Gupta why action is not taken against the Welfare Associations despite funds being provided for the cleanliness of parks. He mentioned that despite giving lakhs of rupees to the Welfare Association in his ward, the maintenance of parks is still poor.
Responding to the question, Municipal Commissioner Anindita Mitra stated that the MOUs with Welfare Associations that are not ensuring the cleanliness of parks will be cancelled. During the meeting, Councillors Damanpreet Singh and Ram Chandra Yadav also raised the issue of shopkeepers facing difficulties in disposing of garbage in the city. They highlighted the significant problem of shopkeepers struggling with waste disposal.
In response, the Municipal Commissioner mentioned that in the coming days, 250 employees would be deployed from Manimajra to various markets in the city. Additionally, a waste collection committee would be formed.
Councillor Ram Chandra Yadav raised the issue of the deteriorating condition of houses built by the Housing Board in Dhanas, stating that the houses constructed twelve years ago need urgent attention for repairs and improvements.
The meeting also discussed the construction of a guest house for MC in Sector 47, similar to the UT Guest House. Councillor Jasvir Singh Laddi suggested the construction of an MC guest house in his ward, as there is currently no MC guest house in Chandigarh. Lastly, Councillor Suman Amit Sharma raised concerns about the lack of dispensaries in her ward, emphasizing the need for a dispensary to cater to minor illnesses without residents having to visit larger hospitals. In another development, the Municipal Corporation decided to lease Mauli Jagran booths that were vacant for some time. The decision was made during the general house meeting, where the rates for the booths were fixed. Almost all councillors agreed on leasing booths, including those in Mauli Jagran, Sector 112, and 2 kiosks.
The Corporation also determined the rent for these booths. The rent for the ground-floor booths was set at 5,000 rupees per month, the first-floor destination at 3,500 rupees, the ground-floor hall at 40,000 rupees, and the first-floor hall at 35,000 rupees. These booths will be put up for auction in Mauli Jagran itself.
Overall, the meeting covered various civic issues, and the decisions taken aim to address concerns related to park maintenance, waste disposal, housing conditions, and public facilities in different wards of Chandigarh.
