Chandigarh launches groundbreaking nursing leadership program for global collaboration

Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, is set to host a first-of-its-kind Nursing Leadership and Management Program in the country which has been designed for senior nursing professionals, the program aiming at enhancing leadership and management skills crucial in this complex and dynamic healthcare environment. The participating nations include Tanzania, Niger, Tajikistan, Seychelles, Maldives, Argentina, and Botswana.

Scheduled to commence from January 9th to 18th, 2024, the 10-day program will be organized by the Department of Community Medicine and School of Public Health at PGIMER, Chandigarh, under the International Public Health Management Development Program banner.
Dr. Sonu Goel, Program Director and Professor at the Department of Community Medicine and School of Public Health, PGIMER, Chandigarh, emphasized the significance of this program, stating, “This program marks a significant step towards global collaboration in healthcare education. Nurse practitioners are the backbone of the healthcare system of any country and our aim is to impart Management and leadership skills senior nursing managers from seven countries so that they can excel in leadership and management roles, contributing to the overall improvement of healthcare systems.”

The program, designed to cover key aspects of leadership and management, will include topics such as team building, health communication, change management, crisis management, quality management, budgeting and financial reporting, self-awareness, emotional intelligence, and infection control practices.

Eminent faculty, including Prof. Amarjeet Singh, Former Professor and Head, DCM and SPH, PGIMER; Dr Latha Venkatesan, Principal, Department of Nursing, AIIMS, New Delhi; Dr Nanthini Subbiah, Professor and Head, Department of Community Health Administration, NIHFW, New Delhi Dr Sukhpal Kaur, Principal, National Institute of Nursing Education, PGIMER; Dr Neeradhar, Former Professor, NIHFW, New Delhi; Dr. S K Chadha, Former Director, UBS, Panjab University, Chandigarh; Dr. Keerti Pradhan, Professor Chitkara University; Mr. Vivek Atray, Former IAS; Dr. Madhu Gupta, Professor, PGIMER; Dr. Praveen Kumar, Professor, PGIMER; Dr Mahesh Devnani, Additional Professor, Department of Hospital Administration, PGIMER and Program Director, Dr. Sonu Goel, will facilitate the program using various learning methodologies such as case studies, management games, quizzes, role plays, videos, and mobile applications.

A special cultural event is planned for January 15, 2024, fostering a rich environment for cross-cultural learning and collaboration. The program will conclude on January 18th with a valedictory ceremony, acknowledging outstanding participants in various categories. The Nursing Leadership and Management Program aligns with PGIMER’s commitment to advancing global health leadership and is expected to make a significant contribution to healthcare education on an international scale.

During the program the nurses from the region who have won accolades shall be interacting with delegates and will be honored.
