Chandigarh Congress slams attack on ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ in Assam

Activists and leaders of Chandigarh Congress gathered at Congress Bhawan late yesterday evening to condemn the blatant attempts by the Assam government to disrupt Rahul Gandhi›s Bharat Jodo Nyaya Yatra.

In a press note issued by Rajiv Sharma, the spokesperson of Chandigarh, it was stated that local Congress members resolved to oppose and fight the heinous, planned, and violent attacks on Bharat Jodo Nyaya Yatra. They declared that they will not be intimidated by such cowardly acts of BJP leaders. The workers carried placards condemning the acts of the Assam Chief Minister and raised slogans against him.

Former Mayor Surinder Singh, describing Himanta Biswa Sarma as the «most corrupt Chief Minister in the country,» stated that the Chief Minister, in a desperate attempt, even ordered the Director General of Police of Assam to register FIRs against Rahul Gandhi on frivolous and baseless grounds, without any valid complaint or investigation.

Surinder Singh added that the convoy of Bharat Jodo Nyaya Yatra was violently attacked by an organized group of BJP goons, resulting in injuries to many Congressmen, including the President of Assam Congress. Achhey Lal Gaur, General Secretary of Chandigarh, alleged that the Chief Minister of Assam is acting recklessly only to mask his gross administrative failure and unbridled corruption in his state.

The Congress leaders unanimously reiterated their unwavering commitment to ensuring social and economic justice throughout the country and vowed to fight the attempts of the BJP to transfer the country›s resources to a handful of rich individuals.

Prominent among the leaders present included Rajiv Moudgil, Surjit Singh, Parveen Narang, Manoj Lubana, Vipin Jot Aman, Dharamvir, Sonia Jaiswal, Megha Kayan, Kishore Kumar, Sunil Sood, Manish Lamba, and Dev Raj.
