Central Government notified the appointment of Justice Amit Sharma as the permanent judge of Delhi High Court on May 31, 2022. Justice Amit Sharma oath was being administered by Justice Satish Chandra Sharma in the presence of other judges.
Justice Amit Sharma, who was practicing as a lawyer and as an Additional Judge of Delhi High Court. On June 01, 2022, Justice Amit Sharma took oath as the Additional Judge. The name of Justice Amit Sharma was being recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium for elevation as the judge of the Delhi High Court in November 2021.
Earlier, the Supreme Court Collegium has recommended that Justice Sharma be made a permanent judge against an existing vacancy.
The Supreme Court Collegium stated that with regards to all the relevant factors, the Supreme Court Collegium is of the considered view that Shri Justice Amit Sharma, Additional Judge, is being suitable for being appointed as a Permanent Judge of the High Court of Delhi.
The Delhi High Court Collegium had earlier on January 09 had unanimously recommended name of Justice Sharma for appointment as a permanent judge of the court. Therefore, following the recommendation of Supreme Court Collegium, the Centre last week issued the notification for appointment of Justice Sharma as a permanent judge.
