Central jail scandal: Seized smartphones raises concern over inmate activities

The high-tech central jail in Sri Gobindwal Sahib, constructed at a cost of crores of rupees, remains a topic of discussion due to the frequent confiscation of mobile phones, narcotics, and sharp weapons from dangerous gangsters, convicts, and detainees. Once again, the jail came under scrutiny when the prison administration seized two smartphones from the notorious gangster Pawan Nehra and Keshav Kumar during a joint operation with Punjab Police in Lohawat village, Phalodi district, Rajasthan.

According to information, Pawan Nehra faces numerous criminal cases, including several serious offenses under Section 302, besides allegations of committing significant crimes in various police stations beyond Delhi. His brother, gangster Sampat Nehra, currently residing in Canada, also faces multiple cases. The police have been searching for him for an extended period. Pawan Nehra is currently incarcerated in the central jail in Sri Gobindwal Sahib in connection with the Sidhu Moosewala murder case.

During a recent search operation conducted by the jail administration, a smartphone was confiscated from him. Additionally, Keshav Kumar, a suspect named in the Sidhu Moosewala murder case, against whom a case under Section 302 has been registered at Mansa Police Station, is also detained in the central jail. A smartphone was also recovered from him during the search campaign. The police from Sri Gobindwal Sahib Police Station have taken possession of both seized mobile phones from both parties and initiated a thorough investigation to determine the duration of their usage and the criminal activities they may have engaged in while in jail.
