The hearing in the Manipur violence case will be held in the Supreme Court today. Meanwhile, the CBI has started investigation and the Centre has informed the top court about the actions taken so far in Manipur by filing an affidavit. The arrest of the accused involved in the incident has also been mentioned. Information about relief-rehabilitation, health and food facilities has also been given, but now what will be the stand of the Supreme Court on Manipur – this is important. Earlier, taking suo moto cognizance of the incidents in Manipur, the Supreme Court of India had shown a very tough stand. The Supreme Court had even said that if the state and central governments do not do anything, then it will come forward and take strict action.
As part of the investigation, the state government has started collecting biometrics data of infiltrators from Myanmar while launching a massive campaign against them. The premier investigation agency has deployed its Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by a DIG rank officer in the state as it is sending more forensic experts and women officers at the earliest to probe the case. The Ministry of Home Affairs has directed to complete this work by September.
More than 160 people have died in ethnic violence that broke out after a tribal solidarity march in Manipur. The Meitei community living in the Imphal Valley forms about 53 per cent of the population, while those living in the hilly areas are tribals like the Kukis and the Nagas and their percent is 40.
Anticipating the possibility of ethnic conflict due to infiltration of foreign elements into the state, the Manipur government has directed that the campaign will continue across the state till the biometrics data of the infiltrators is collected.
After the inhuman treatment meted out to two Kuki women, some people are instigating the entire Kuki community that they cannot live with Meitei. They need their own separate administrative region.
A delegation of Opposition parties met the families of the victims on Saturday-Sunday (29-30 August). Governor Anusuiya Uike also met the victims at the relief camp in Churachandpur. Meanwhile, Meitei took out a rally against the demand of separate administration of the Kuki community and said that the houses of Meitei have been burnt, who will talk about the violence and humiliation with their men, women and children.
The Meitei community rally also stressed on maintaining the territorial integrity of the state. The rally was held by the Coordination Committee on Manipur Integrity (Kokomi).
In the current situation in Manipur, one question remains unresolved as to who came up with the idea of using ‘women’ as weapons? Violent mobs committed crimes against women and now women squads are being used from both sides to obstruct the action of security forces. That is why, the government has deployed additional women security forces in Manipur.
Manipur’s natural beauty scorched by flames of violence
Manipur, a beautiful state in the northeastern part of India, is home to a variety of ethnic groups, each with its own unique culture, history and traditions. Two important communities are prominent among these – the Meitei and the Kuki. Both have played a significant role in shaping the social fabric and history of the region, and over the centuries, both of them have contributed significantly to the cultural landscape of Manipur but nowadays, Manipur is burning in the fires of ethnic strife. The country is ashamed of the recent incident on May 4 which gave goosebumps. Expressing deep anguish over the video that went viral on the eve of the Monsoon Session of Parliament, the Central has handed over the investigation of all cases registered in Manipur incidents to the CBI. However, an influential think tank of the country believes that foreign forces could be behind the incidents in Manipur. However, all this is expected to come to light soon as following the Central’s order, the CBI has taken over the investigation and has registered a seventh case in addition to the six cases registered by the Manipur Police. The incident of parading women naked took place on May 4 in Kangpokpi district. A mob of hundreds paraded two women naked after looting and arson. They were also gang raped. Two of his male relatives were also killed for protesting. On 18 May, the Manipur Police registered a case of kidnapping, gang rape and murder at Nongpok Sekmai Police station in Thoubal district. A total of 7 cases have been registered since then. Now everyone wants peace and stability to prevail in the culturally, naturally diverse and beautiful state of Manipur.
