CBI opposes Manish Sisodia’s bail plea, files affidavit in SC

The CBI has opposed the bail petition of former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia in the Delhi Excise Policy case and filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court. The CBI, in its affidavit, has said that Manish Sisodia is accused of a serious corruption case and should not be given bail. Sisodia does not meet the triple test for bail in such cases. CBI has also said in affidavit that he is politically influential and has already destroyed evidence and is non-cooperative during interrogation. Apart from this, his wife’s illness is not a new thing, because her treatment has been going on for 23 years. He himself has withdrawn this petition from the Delhi High Court. In such a situation, he cannot be granted interim bail, it added.
The former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister had filed a bail petition in the Supreme Court on July 14, citing his wife’s illness. The petition was heard on July 28 and the Supreme Court had asked the CBI to file a reply.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has told the Supreme Court that Aam Aadmi Party leaders are engaged in a criminal conspiracy with accused from South India to carve out and monopolise the liquor trade in the capital. The former Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi shaped public opinion about the Delhi Excise Policy. They entered into criminal conspiracy with the accused persons and others from South India with a pre-conceived idea to manipulate the excise policy to facilitate monopoly and cartelisation of wholesale and retail liquor trade in Delhi.
The CBI reply also stated that Sisodia does not meet the triple test for bail in such cases, as he is politically influential. Have already destroyed evidence and are non-cooperative during interrogation. This affidavit has been filed opposing the bail application filed by Sisodia.
Earlier, the bench of Justice Sanjiv Khanna, Justice Bela M Trivedi and Justice Ujjwal Bhuyan sought response from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the ED) on Sisodia’s bail plea in the case. Sisodia, caught in the Excise Policy scam case, has filed a petition in the Supreme Court challenging the order of the Delhi High Court. He was denied bail in the cases registered against him by the CBI and the ED. The Delhi High Court had on July 3 denied bail to Sisodia in the ED case. On May 30, it rejected Sisodia’s bail plea in a CBI case related to the same scam.
