‘Callous’ doctor operates on accident victim but forgets to take out broken number plate

CHANDIGARH: Exposing the callousness of the medical staff of Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Chandigarh, a youth who was injured in a road accident nearly lost his life due to infection caused by a broken number plate inserted that was not removed by the doctors at the time of operation.

Two youths were injured in a road accident on Sunday and they were brought to the hospital for treatment. While carrying out the surgery on one of the patients, the doctors left a broken piece of vehicle’s number plate in the patient’s leg and performed the surgery.

This negligence by the medical staff became a source of infection in the patient’s body. Later, the family of the boy shifted him to PGI, Chandigarh, where another surgery was performed on his leg and the broken piece of iron was taken out from his body.
