C.M. Ibrahim expelled, H.D. Kumaraswamy named as new JDS state president

The Janata Dal Secular (JDS) has removed C.M. Ibrahim from his post as the JDS state president and former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy has been chosen as his successor. This significant decision was reached during a JDS Core Committee meeting held on Thursday at the JDS office in Bangalore.

C.M. Ibrahim, who had recently convened a meeting, found himself at odds with the party over the alliance choices, particularly the election alliance with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). During his meeting, he expressed his firm stance against aligning with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and advocated supporting the Indian National Congress. In a surprising twist during the same meeting, discussions were initiated about the possible expulsion of H.D. Kumaraswamy and Nikhil Kumaraswamy from the party.

However, before any such action could be taken against Kumaraswamy and Nikhil Kumaraswamy, C.M. Ibrahim faced his own expulsion from the party. This move was attributed to his public criticism of the party’s alliance decisions and his claim that he should have been consulted regarding the election alliance with the NDA.

The decision to remove C.M. Ibrahim from his position as the JDS state president was reportedly unanimous and taken by the JDS Core Committee during their meeting today. It is evident that the party felt that Ibrahim’s recent actions were not aligned with the best interests of the JDS.

In response to this significant development, former Prime Minister and JDS national president, Deve Gowda, addressed the media. He indicated that C.M. Ibrahim’s expulsion was carried out at the insistence of the core committee members, emphasizing that it was a collective decision made in the interest of preserving the party’s unity and priorities.

This unexpected shift in leadership within the JDS is poised to have a considerable impact on the political landscape in Karnataka. Further developments in this evolving political story will be closely monitored. Stay tuned for more updates.
