Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman would be presenting the budget tomorrow. This will be the last detailed union budget before the BJP government contest the general elections next year. The session for the same began today with the address of President Droupadi Murmu in th joint sitting of both the houses.
There are lots of expectations from this year’s budget, however, the opposition is likely to corner the government on issues including Adani-Hindenburg row, a nationwide caste-based economic census and the women’s reservation bill.
The government plans to bring around 36 bills – including four related to the budgetary exercise – during the session.
The session will have 27 sittings and will continue till April 6 with a month-long recess to examine the budget papers.
The first part of the session will conclude on February 14. Parliament will reconvene on March 12 for the second part of the Budget Session.
