Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati, on her 68th birthday, expressed gratitude for the invitation to the consecration ceremony at Ayodhya’s Ram temple scheduled for January 22. However, she clarified that a decision on her attendance is pending due to ongoing party commitments.
Mayawati, addressing a press conference, stated, “I have received the invitation for the ‘Pran Pratishtha’ (consecration ceremony) program to be held on January 22 in Ayodhya. I have not taken any decision yet on attending the program because right now I am very busy with my party’s programs.”
Asserting the BSP’s secular stance, Mayawati emphasized that her party has no objections to the Ayodhya Ram temple event and welcomes it. She added, “In the future, if any such program is held regarding Babri Masjid, our party will have no objection to that also.”
“Our party is a secular party and respects all religions equally. No matter what religion it is. Our party has not opposed anyone. The Bahujan Samaj Party is the only party in the country that is secular,” she affirmed.
Mayawati reassured that the decision on her attendance at the ceremony would be communicated to the media once finalized. The BSP leader’s remarks came amid preparations for the consecration ceremony, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to participate, along with thousands of attendees, including seers. The ceremony holds significance as it marks the formal consecration of the Ram temple in Ayodhya, following the Supreme Court’s 2019 verdict on the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid title suit.
