Thwarting a smuggling attempt, the BSF (Border Security Force) troops from Border Outpost Betai, 84 Battalion, under South Bengal Frontier, rescued rare species of birds that were smuggled to India from Bangladesh.
The BSF troops from the aforesaid Battalion on Wednesday, February 15, observed suspicious activities of smugglers entering Indian territory with a wooden box. When challenged by Indian jawans, the smugglers escaped towards Bangladesh taking advantage of darkness and dense bushes.
During the thorough search and investigation, a wooden box was recovered containing 8 birds of a rare species, 3 of which were found dead. The commanding officer of 84 Battalion expressed his appreciation for the alertness of his jawans, who are fully committed in stopping the trans-border crimes and smuggling.
He furthermore added that the BSF will continue to work towards preserving the environment and protecting endangered species from such criminal activities.
