BRO Achieves Milestone with 260-Meter Kandi Tunnel on Akhnoor-Poonch Road

The Border Road Organisation (BRO) has reached a significant milestone in its ongoing Project Sampark on National Highway 144A (NH144A) from Akhnoor to Poonch. This pivotal project, divided into eight packages, is making remarkable strides in enhancing the road’s horizontal and vertical profile. In a remarkable feat of engineering, the first of the four tunnels, the 260-meter-long Kandi Tunnel, has achieved a breakthrough. This remarkable accomplishment stands as a testament to the unwavering dedication and hard work of the BRO team.
Despite facing adverse weather conditions, including heavy rainfall and landslides along the entire road stretch, tunnel work, which commenced in March 2023, has shown remarkable progress. The breakthrough came ahead of schedule, showcasing the exceptional expertise and determination of the BRO. Brigadier Tejpal Singh, SM, Chief Engineer Project Sampark, was present to witness this historic moment. Package – 1 is anticipated to be completed by June 2024. Once finished, this tunnel will reduce the road’s length by 2.5 kilometers, improving connectivity and enabling more efficient travel between Akhnoor and Poonch.
Furthermore, this tunnel will play a vital role in enhancing strategic connectivity for the Armed Forces, facilitating smoother and more expedient movement from Jammu to Poonch.
