British Council and Karnataka Govt Launch 4 New Programmes to Enhance Education and Skills

Major Initiatives to Advance Higher Education and Skilling in Karnataka
The British Council, in collaboration with the Karnataka Government, has launched four new initiatives aimed at improving higher education and skilling opportunities in the state. These programmes, part of a recent MoU with the Karnataka State Higher Education Council (KSHEC), mark a significant step towards enhancing language proficiency, employability, and international exposure for students.

SCOUT Programme by GREAT: International Learning Experience
The Scholars for Outstanding Undergraduate Talent (SCOUT) programme, in partnership with the University of East London, will send 30 students and faculty from six universities in Karnataka to the UK for a two-week immersive learning experience in November 2024. This programme aims to provide deserving students from underprivileged backgrounds with international exposure in key areas such as Sustainable Development Goals, Critical Thinking, and Entrepreneurship.

English Skills for Youth: Bridging Language Gaps
The English Skills for Youth initiative, a collaboration between the British Council and Microsoft India, focuses on enhancing English communication skills for 5,795 students across 16 Government Engineering Colleges. This programme includes 40 hours of online coursework through Microsoft LMS, supplemented by 30 hours of in-person sessions.

Capacity Building for Internationalisation
The Capacity Building Training for International Officers aims to strengthen internationalisation in Indian universities, with 56 participants from 28 universities selected for specialised training in global collaboration and knowledge-sharing.

Freemium Digital Library Wall: Expanding Access to Resources
The launch of the Freemium Digital Library Wall at Bengaluru City University enhances access to valuable educational resources for students and faculty, aligning with Karnataka’s goal to improve digital learning infrastructure.
