n the case of the former Chief Minister of Punjab Beant Singh’s assassination, the Chandigarh court has acquitted Jagtar Singh Hawara, a terrorist associated with Babbar Khalsa International (BKI). He was granted relief in the RDX-related case. Chandigarh Police could not present evidence against Jagtar Singh Hawara in the RDX case in the District Court.
It was reported that Jagtar Singh Hawara had arranged for RDX along with his associates Kamaljit and Paramjit to execute the blast. The police had been struggling for quite some time to provide evidence in this case.
Now, the police told the court of his accomplice’s death. Due to the lack of evidence in court, Jagtar Singh Hawara has been acquitted. Currently, Hawara is incarcerated in Mandoli Jail in Delhi.
Both accused were arrested in 2005
The Chandigarh Police’s operation cell had apprehended both associates of the terrorist Jagtar Singh Hawara, Kamaljit Singh and Paramjit Singh, along with RDX from Sector-35’s Kisan Bhavan Chowk in 2005. Subsequently, charges under IPC sections 121, 121 A, 122, 153, 120 B, Arms Act sections 25, 54, 59, and Explosive Substances Act 1908 sections 45 and 6 were filed against these accused in Chandigarh’s Sector-36 police station. During interrogation of these individuals, Hawara’s name had surfaced.
Protests for release are ongoing in Mohali
For the release of Sikh prisoners, a protest has been ongoing for nearly 10 months at YPS Chowk in Mohali, initiated by the People’s Justice Front. This protest primarily includes demands for the release of terrorist Jagtar Singh Hawara. The government is being urged to expedite the release of Sikhs whose sentences have been completed.
