In Rajasthan, along with the announcement of the state assembly elections, political parties have also begun making statements against each other. Recently, BJP’s state spokesperson Mukesh Pariik criticised the Congress, saying that the Congress party has once again started a campaign of “false promises” while looking at the assembly elections.
He said, “In different regions of the state, the Congress is providing false guarantees while the ground reality is different. In the five years of Congress rule, the government has increased Rajasthan’s debt by 5.37 lakh crore rupees. This is the first time in Rajasthan’s history that a government is resorting to false promises in the name of guaranteeing the lost public support.”
He said, “The state government is announcing several free schemes before the election and is accumulating new debt. In this way, the state government has essentially submerged Rajasthan in a debt quagmire.”
Another spokesperson of the BJP, Pankaj Meena, alleges, “Due to the false electoral promises of Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, who is anti-farmer, and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi regarding farmer loan waivers, 19,000 farmers in the state have been displaced from their land. In addition to this, banks have also issued notices for land auctions to these same farmers. Now, in the final phase, as the Chief Minister realised his mistake, a Farmer Debt Relief Commission has been formed to further play with the sentiments of the farmers.”
According to Meena, the NPAs of 3,49,257 farmers in the state amounted to Rs 6,180 crore, out of which an eligible amount of Rs 5638.47 crore should have been waived. However, the government has only waived the loans from cooperative banks. Moreover, most of the farmers’ loans were forgiven during the previous BJP government’s rule. Meena said that the farmers who fell for Congress’ false promises have lost their land. Due to their inability to repay loans from 2019 to 2022, banks have auctioned off the land of 18,643 farmers in 2019 (6594), 2020 (4990), 2021 (5294), and 2022 (1765).
