BJP spokesperson Sher Gill demands flights from Adampur to Varanasi

BJP National Spokesperson Jayveer Sher Gill met with Central Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia along with Punjab BJP leaders, Sushil Sharma, BJP Jalandhar District President, Ashok Sareen, BJP Jalandhar General Secretary, Dimpy Sachdeva, and Rajesh Kapoor. They requested the resumption of flights from Adampur to Delhi, emphasizing the significance of considering the needs and sentiments of all communities. Additionally, they urged the introduction of direct flights from Adampur to Varanasi for pilgrimage to the sacred sites of Guru Ravidas Ji’s birthplace and the Kashi Vishwanath Temple.

During the meeting, Sher Gill informed the Civil Aviation Minister that the Central government had granted permission on May 1, 2018, for SpiceJet to operate flights under the Udan scheme on the Delhi-Adampur route at a lower cost, connecting the Doaba region of Punjab and the adjoining areas of Himachal Pradesh. The flight operations were successful until March 2020. Despite the significant traffic and demand, SpiceJet has not operated any flights in this specific region since November 2020 (excluding two days in April 2021). The absence of flights has caused inconvenience to travelers, visitors, and residents of the Doaba region, affecting the effectiveness of the Udan scheme.

Sher Gill urged the prompt resumption of flights from Delhi to Adampur and the initiation of new flights connecting Mumbai, Jaipur, and Adampur.

Sher Gill also raised the important issue of starting flights between Adampur and Varanasi. He highlighted that nearly 40% of the population in Punjab belongs to the Scheduled Caste community, which follows the teachings of Guru Ravidas Ji. Adampur, falling in the Doaba region of Punjab, has the highest population of the Scheduled Caste community. He emphasized the significance of Varanasi for the Scheduled Caste community in Punjab, being the birthplace of Guru Ravidas Ji, and expressed that it would facilitate the pilgrimage to the Kashi Vishwanath Temple for devotees.
