Nitesh Rane, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of the Legislative Assembly, has written a letter to the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly secretary, urging action against Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut and the Opposition leader in the state Legislative Council, Ambadas Danve, for making disparaging remarks about Speaker Rahul Narwekar. The issue under contention revolves around the disqualification of Shiv Sena MLAs, with two factions of the party led by Uddav Thackeray and Eknath Shinde at odds.
In the letter, Rane asserts that Raut and Danve’s comments, which imply ulterior motives on the part of the Speaker regarding the matter, constitute a breach of privilege and should prompt action. He insists that the comments made by Raut and Danve against Narwekar be referred to the privileges committee, with appropriate measures taken against the Shiv Sena (UBT) leaders.
Rane enumerates the contentious statements made by Raut and Danve. He points to Raut’s assertion that “The Speaker (Narwekar) is dishonest with the Constitution, law, and Assembly. He is just dragging the case to buy time.
