BJP launches polls preparations in J&K, plans 90 offices across UT constituencies

As anticipation builds for the upcoming Assembly Polls in the newly carved Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has embarked on a robust poll preparedness exercise. The party has unveiled plans to establish 90 offices across all constituencies of Jammu and Kashmir, with a primary focus on expanding its reach and engagement efforts.

In an exclusive interview with The Daily Guardian, BJP General Secretary Devinder Manyal outlined the party’s strategic approach, stating, “Following the inauguration of party offices in all 05 Lok Sabha constituencies, we are now commencing the establishment of offices in all 90 assembly constituencies of Jammu and Kashmir.” Manyal emphasized that both the Supreme Court and J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha have reaffirmed the likelihood of assembly elections taking place before September this year, underscoring the party’s readiness for the electoral contest ahead.

With the dynamics of the region undergoing significant changes post the abrogation of Article 370 and 35A, the BJP, which emerged as the second-largest party with 25 seats in the 2014 Assembly Polls, is setting ambitious targets for the upcoming elections. Manyal expressed confidence in the party’s prospects, asserting, “We are aiming to surpass the 50 plus mark in the upcoming assembly polls. This vision reflects not only our aspirations but also the dedication of our grassroots workers. We anticipate strong performances in both the Jammu and Kashmir regions.”

Furthermore, the BJP’s Jammu and Kashmir unit has submitted a list of potential candidates for parliamentary seats in the region, demonstrating proactive preparations for the electoral fray. The party has kept its options open for seats in the valley and those encompassing parts of both Kashmir and Jammu. Notable figures featured in the candidate lists include sitting Member of Parliament Jugal Kishore, BJP J&K President Ravinder Raina, and former Deputy CM Dr. Nirmal Singh, among others. Sources within the party indicate that preparations are being expedited to ensure readiness regardless of the timing of the Assembly Polls. In the event that the Assembly Polls are not held simultaneously with the Lok Sabha Polls, a transition in state leadership is anticipated, with the induction of fresh faces to spearhead the party’s campaign.

The BJP’s proactive approach underscores its commitment to strengthening its foothold in Jammu and Kashmir, as it gears up for the electoral battle ahead.
