Bhagirath Choudhary, the state president of the BJP Kisan Morcha, released a statement, saying, “Due to crop damage, more than a dozen farmers have committed suicide in the state, with hopes of compensation and debt waiver.
However, the state government did not fulfil its electoral promises.
The path to debt waiver witnessed the auctioning of 19,000 farmers’ lands in the state, and upon observing electoral turmoil, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has once again betrayed the farmers by establishing a Farmers’ Debt Relief Commission before the elections.”
Bhagirath Choudhary stated that according to government figures, in various locations over the past five years, more than a dozen farmers have committed suicide. He cited the incidents of 2019, a farmer in Ganganagar went live on Facebook and left a two-page suicide note expressing his concerns about the state government’s failure to fulfil its promises of farmer loan waivers. Following this, a farmer in Kota’s Nanta region committed suicide due to debt and crop damage. He said that despite these incidents, the state government, in response to a question posed in the legislature, stated that no farmer had committed suicide due to debt or land auctions.
