On Tuesday, Rajya Sabha member Kapil Sibal attacked the BJP for the AIADMK’s decision to leave the National Democratic Alliance, claiming that another ally had defected and those who remained were in “opportunistic alliances with no ideological glue.”
The AIADMK announced on Monday that it was leaving the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and that it would head a separate front for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, breaking its four-year relationship with the BJP. A high-level meeting at the AIADMK headquarters in Chennai, presided over by party leader Edappadi K Palaniswami, decided to leave the NDA.
In a post on X, Sibal said, “AIADMK exits NDA. Yet another ally leaves them! Those still with them are opportunistic alliances with no ideological glue: Pawar & Shinde in Maharashtra & alliances in the North East.” The BJP is like the “camel in the tent”, he said.
Sibal, a Union minister during UPA I and II, left the Congress in May of last year and received support from the Samajwadi Party to be elected as an Independent to the Rajya Sabha.
