GOA: Maharashtra businessman Lalit Gandhi held a session to create public awareness of the farm laws and support them at his daughter’s wedding. Instead of organising a Sangeet Sandhya (musical evening), he conducted an awareness programme where guests were informed about the benefits of the three new farm laws.
Gandhi spent about half an hour of the day’s programme to explain the terms of the farm laws to the people gathered. These were printed in the invitation cards for the wedding as well.
Speaking to The Daily Guardian, Gandhi said, “I am a farmer too and these laws will benefit farmers. Some middlemen and agents are against them because they will not get their commission now.”
He also decided to raise the issue given that the National Farmers’ Day on 23 December coincided with the wedding festivities in Goa. The event was aimed at dispelling misconceptions around the laws and providing detailed information about the same.
Gandhi’s daughter, Bhakti, also told The Daily Guardian that the family decided to speak on the matter given that the wedding was taking place in the middle of the farmers’ protests as well as the pandemic.
