Bihar: Teen killed after his father refused to pay Rs 5,500 ‘protection money’

According to police, a 13-year-old who was allegedly abducted on Sunday night by three men after his vegetable vendor father refused to give them 5,500 in protection money has been found dead. After locals in the Sitamarhi district stopped National Highway 77 through the area, one of the three suspects was apprehended.

According to the first information report (FIR), 13-year-old Rohit Kumar was abducted soon after his father in Araria village of Kangauli area refused to pay the protection money. His body was found near a river in the area on Monday.

Angry residents barricaded the road and set it on fire to demand action right away. Subodh Kumar, the area’s deputy superintendent of police (DSP), assured the residents of rigorous action and calmed them down. Later, the officers arrested one person.

Villagers in Siwan, approximately 150 kilometres distant, stopped the Siwan-Chhapra National Highway-531 on Tuesday and hurled stones at a police team after Manoj Yadav, 36, who had returned from Kolkata five days earlier for Diwali, was shot and killed by three thugs. Manoj Yadav was returning from Chanchaura Bazaar when the incident occurred, according to the police, in the Kamlachowk neighbourhood inside the boundaries of the Daraunda police station area. Yadav was a labourer in Kolkata city.

Police said Yadav was shot four times and died on his way to Chhapra Sadar hospital.
