Bad weather conditions are likely to prevail until 6 July in several parts of Bihar and parts of south-east Bihar are likely to witness heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorm and lightning.
From 25 June approximately 120 people have died in the state due to lightning and thunderstorm. The Met department has predicted that severe weather conditions will be there in several parts of south-east Bihar and all 38 districts of the state would witness heavy to medium rainfall. A yellow warning has been issued and the state government has been put on high alert.
A total of 92 people died on 25 June, 11 people died on 30 June, and 26 people died on 3 July, all due to lightning in Bihar.
The Met department has indicated that the trough line passing from Ganganagar to Gwalior is hovering around Daltonganj, so parts of south-east Bihar would be witness to heavy to very heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorm and lightning. The problem is compounded further by cyclonic circulation which continues in parts of eastern Uttar Pradesh.
In the wake of so many deaths taking place in the state due to lightning, the state government has issued a detailed advisory to the people. A long list of dos and don’ts is presently being spread as a campaign and people have been advised to stay indoors in the advent of bad weather conditions. A special advisory has been issued for the farmers and farm labourers as most of the deaths that have occurred are in rural areas.
