Following several days of rumours, Nitish Kumar submitted his letter of resignation as chief minister of Bihar on Tuesday. The National Democratic Alliance government in the state of Bihar came to an end when Kumar presented his letter of resignation to Governor Phagu Chauhan at Raj Bhawan.
This follows a meeting that Kumar had with MLAs and MPs from Janata Dal-United (JDU). Kumar made the decision to leave the NDA known at the meeting held in Patna. Kumar had informed the party’s legislators and MPs that the Bharatiya Janata Party had humiliated the JDU (BJP). Additionally, he claimed that the BJP attempted to destroy JDU.
The 2020 Bihar Assembly election saw the NDA win 125 seats, compared to the Mahagatbandhan’s 110 victories, and this caused friction within the coalition. 74, 75, 43, and 19 seats were won by the BJP, RJD, JDU, and Congress, respectively. Despite only winning one seat, LJP is thought to have negatively impacted JDU’s chances in 32 seats. It was thought that JDU’s influence in the coalition weakened as BJP for the first time in a Bihar Assembly election gained more seats than JDU.
