BENGAL TO HAND OVER DOCUMENTS TO CBI

A day after the Calcutta High Court directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to probe the Group D school recruitment case, the central agency initiated the work on Tuesday.

According to reports, the CBI is already getting instructions from the central government. The agency, however, did not form any committee on Tuesday.

The CBI will collect documents related to the case from the Calcutta High Court on Wednesday and thereafter will investigate the case. The agency has to submit the preliminary report to the court by December 21.

It has also sought a list of officers who are willing to be in the committee.

In 2016, the Bengal government had issued a notification regarding Group D recruitment and 13,000 people were recruited. The Group D panel expired in May 2019. It was alleged that more than one appointment has been made since then and 25 people have been recommended for recruitment. When the Calcutta High Court learned about this, it sought an explanation as to how the appointment was made from the expired recruitment list.

The education system of the state is in the news over the last few days owing to allegations of rampant corruption. Therefore, the CBI has been tasked with investigating the case.
