Balasore train accident: Authorities set up Help desk at Bhubaneswar civic body office

On Sunday, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation established a help desk to assist train accident victims in Odisha’s Balasore.

The help desk has been established at the BMC-ICOMC tower in Satya Nagar, Bhubaneswar, to assist family, friends, and relatives of those who died and those who were stranded in the tragic train accident.

“Odisha Train Accident HelpLine: 1929 A Help Desk under the supervision of senior officers has been created in @bmcbbsr office in Bhubaneswar for extending assistance to the relatives of the victims of the train accident,” PR Department, Odisha said in a tweet.

The department further added “A helpline no: 1929 has also been started for this purpose.” In the aftermath of the Balasore train accident in Odisha, the Ministry of Railways issued helpline numbers on Saturday.

People in Howrah, Kharagpur, Balasore, Shalimar, Santragachi, Bhadrak, Jajpur Keonjhar Road, Cuttack, Bhubaneshwar, and Khurda Road can call the helpline. A help desk was set up at Bengaluru’s Yeshwanthpur railway station on Saturday to assist train accident victims in Odisha’s Balasore.

The Balasore train accident involved two passenger trains and a goods carriage, killing 288 passengers and injuring over 1,000 others. According to the preliminary report, the three-way accident involved the Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express, the Coromandel Express, and a goods train on three separate tracks at Bahanaga Bazar Station in Balasore district. In the Friday evening accident, 17 coaches of these two passenger trains were derailed and severely damaged.
