Assam Rifles, along with the Special Narcotics Police Station and CID (Crime) in Aizawl, apprehended a Myanmar national on Thursday. Assam Rifles announced on Friday that they had seized heroin valued at more than Rs 8 crores during the operation.
Based on specific intelligence, a joint team comprising Assam Rifles and the Special Narcotics Police Station, CID (Crime), Aizawl, conducted the operation.
“Assam Rifles, along with Special Narcotics Police Station, CID (Crime), Aizawl, Mizoram recovered 110 soap cases (1.206 kg) Heroin No. 04, with an approximate value of Rs 8,44,20,000 and one Honda car in General Area Tuikual North, Aizawl and apprehended one Myanmar’s National on April 25,” said a statement from headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (East).
On April 25, 2024, the seized contraband and the detained individual were transferred to the Special Narcotics Police Station, CID (Crime), Mizoram, Aizawl, for subsequent legal actions.
The persistent smuggling of illicit drugs remains a significant concern for both Mizoram and India. Consequently, Assam Rifles, aptly dubbed the ‘Sentinels of Northeast’, has intensified its campaign against drug trafficking. The statement from Assam Rifles affirms that they are redoubling their efforts to apprehend the masterminds behind the drug syndicates operating in Mizoram.
