Assam: Flood situation marginally improves, 4 lakh people still affected

According to the Assam Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), the flood situation in Assam has eased slightly, although approximately 4.01 lakh people in 15 districts remain affected.

According to ASDMA flood data, one more person perished in Nalabri area after drowning in flood water in the last 24 hours, bringing the total death toll to three.

“Nearly 2.22 lakh people have been affected alone in Bajali district, followed by 1.04 lakh people affected in Barpeta, 40668 people affected in Nalbari, 22060 people in Lakhimpur, 8493 people in Darrang, 4750 people in Goalpara district,” stated ASDMA.

The deluge has affected 1118 villages in the districts of Bajali, Baksa, Barpeta, Chirang, Darrang, Dhubri, Dibrugarh, Goalpara, Golaghat, Jorhat, Kamrup, Lakhimpur, Nagaon, Nalbari, and Tamulpur.

Following the continuous rain, the Brahmaputra River’s water level has risen above the danger limit at Neamatighat in Jorhat district and Tezpur in Sonitpur district.
Floodwaters have flooded 8469.56 hectares of crops in flood-affected regions.

In 14 flood-affected districts, the district administration has established 101 relief camps and 119 relief distribution centres, and 81352 individuals have taken refuge in these relief camps.
Many others, on the other hand, are still seeking refuge on roads, mountains, and embankments. According to the ASDMA flood report, the water also affected 410055 domestic animals.

In several flood-affected districts, NDRF, SDRF, Fire and Emergency Services, and Civil Defence troops are engaged in rescue efforts. In the last 24 hours, flood waters burst four embankments and damaged 15 more, as well as 157 roads, one bridge, multiple agri bundhs, Anganwadi centres, school buildings, irrigation canals, and culverts.

“202 villages under Barkhetri, Pachim Nalbari, Banekuchi, Nalbari, Tihu, Barbhag, Ghograpar revenue circles are still under water,” it said.
