After fulfilling responsibilities in various key positions across political parties, Ashok Tanwar is now a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), engaging in continuous meetings with the party’s senior leaders. Tanwar visited the residence of BJP’s Haryana in-charge, Viplov Dev, in Delhi on Tuesday, where he exchanged pleasantries with him. Prior to this, Tanwar had also met with BJP’s national president, J.P. Nadda, under the leadership of Chief Minister Manohar Lal and Haryana BJP President Nayab Singh Saini. Speculations suggest that Tanwar might soon be assigned significant responsibilities within the organization. There are strong indications in political discussions that this time, Tanwar may be the BJP candidate from Ambala, as the reserved seat in Ambala is held by BJP leader Ratan Lal Kataria, who continues to be a Member of Parliament. With his demise, possibilities have emerged that the ticket may shift to another prominent Dalit leader. Therefore, after joining the BJP, Tanwar’s presence is subtly pointing in that direction.

Ashok Tanwar has previously served as the Chairman of the Haryana Pradesh Committee for seven years, holding significant responsibilities. In 2009, he contested elections on a Congress ticket and became a Member of Parliament from Sirsa. Tanwar has also held positions such as Secretary of the All India Congress Committee, President of the Indian Youth Congress, and Secretary of the NSUI. Notably, he earned the distinction of becoming the youngest President of the Indian Youth Congress. Due to political reasons and internal conflicts, Dr. Ashok Tanwar resigned from the Congress in 2019. Originally from a farmer family in Jhajjar district, Tanwar has contributed to strengthening both the Trinamool Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party.

With his extensive background as the President of the JNU Student Union and leading the NSUI, Tanwar brings considerable experience to the table. Having held multiple positions, he has significantly strengthened the party. As a prominent Dalit face, he holds sway over Dalit votes across the state. Particularly in Haryana, Congress is relatively stronger against the opposition, and Tanwar’s entry into the BJP could prove to be a game-changer. If Tanwar, who is familiar with Congress from the roots, resonates strongly against the Congress on the BJP platform, it could be highly damaging for Congress and highly advantageous for BJP.
