The Covid-19 pandemic has literally reached the CM house in Bihar, with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s niece testing positive on Monday. She has been admitted to Patna AIIMS.
As a precautionary measure, the Patna Medical College has issued an order to deploy 6 doctors, 3 nurses and a ventilator at the official residence of Nitish Kumar. The doctors and nurses would be working in 3 shifts and each shift will have a team of two doctors and one senior nurse at the residence of the CM. The medical superintendent of Patna Medical college hospital has issued a letter, virtually setting up a makeshift hospital at the CM’s residence having essential equipment.
It might be recalled that the CM himself had undergone corona test after the chairperson of Bihar Legislative council Awdhesh Narayan Singh had tested positive on 4 July. The Deputy Chief Minister had also undergone the test and both had turned out to be negative in the tests. Subsequently 16 other staff at the residence of CM were also tested for Covid-19. On Monday however the test reports of the CM’s niece came out and she was rushed to AIIMS for treatment.
During the entire lockdown the CM had conducted all official work without venturing out of his official residence and through video conferencing. This issue was raised by the Opposition when Tejashwi Yadav “challenged Nitish Kumar to come out of his house and visit a quarantine centre.”
Yadav has yet again targeted Nitish Kumar. He said, “When CM’s sample was sent for Covid-19 testing, reports were received in 2 hours. But in case of a common man, it takes over 5-7 days. Even now the CM residence has been turned into a ventilator-equipped hospital, while poor people are suffering due to lack of medical facilities.”
