Army dog Zoom, who fought J&K militants succumb to injuries

Zoom, an army assault dog who had suffered two gunshots during an encounter in the Anantnag area of Jammu and Kashmir, passed away on Thursday while receiving medical attention.

Army officials were quoted by the media as saying that Zoom passed away at the Advance Field Veterinary Hospital at about 12 o’clock. They reported that “he was reacting nicely up until around 11.45 am, when he all of a sudden started gasping and fell.”

Following information regarding the presence of terrorists, security personnel began a cordon and search operation in the Tangpawa region of the Anantnag district on Sunday night. On Monday morning, Zoom was dispatched inside the house where the militants were thought to be hiding out.

He attacked the extremists and, after doing so, was gravely wounded by two gunshots. The Army claimed that after being hurt, the dog continued to attack the insurgents and assisted in efforts to neutralise them.

Two soldiers and two Lashkar-e-Taiba militants were killed in the combat.
