Arjun Meghwal to move the Advocate Amendment Bill today in Lok Sabha

An official statement said that Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal will move the Advocates Amendment Bill, 2023 in the Lok Sabha to be taken into consideration on Thursday, one day after the Women’s Reservation Bill was passed with 454 members voting in favor of the legislation. The Rajya Sabha previously approved the Advocates Amendment Bill, 2023, which modifies the Advocates Act, 1961.

The Legal Practitioners Act of 1879 has some outdated provisions that are repealed by this bill. Additionally, it aims to criminalize “touting” by allowing judges to publish a list of those who engage in such behavior. A tout is someone who solicits legal professionals for employment in exchange for any form of payment. Any person whose name appears on the list of touts may be barred from the Court’s grounds.
