Are periods necessary process of life or a health issue?

Other names for menstruation include menses, menstrual period, menstrual cycle, and period. Menstrual blood passes via the cervix in the uterus and then leaves the body through the vagina. Menstrual blood is made up of some blood and some uterine tissue. Hormones control the commencement of the menstrual cycle.

The menstrual cycle refers to the monthly set of changes the body undergoes to prepare for pregnancy. Each month, an egg is released from one of the ovaries. This is referred to as ovulation. Due to hormonal changes, the uterus prepares for pregnancy at this time. If the released egg is not fertilised during ovulation, the lining of the uterus sheds through the vagina. It’s now menstruation.

How can menstrual cycle be monitored ?

Start maintaining a calendar of your menstrual cycle to determine what is typical for you. Start by identifying the regularity of your periods by monitoring your start date each month for a number of consecutive months.

If your periods give you anxiety, keep track of the following each month as well:

  • How long does the average period last for you? Is it longer than normal or shorter?
  • Keep a record of how much you are bleeding. Is it heavier or lighter than usual? How frequently should you replace your pads or tampons? Do you have any recent bleeding?
  • Do you experience bleeding between periods?
  • Describe any menstrual pain you experience. Do you feel more discomfort than usual? It is normal to experience some pain or cramps throughout your period.
  • Have your mood or behaviour changed recently? Around the time you became aware of changes in your periods, does anything new occur?

Importance Of Menstruation

In order to prepare the body for a future pregnancy, the menstrual cycle is important. During the menstrual cycle, the ovaries produce a mature egg, and the uterine lining thickens in anticipation of a prospective pregnancy. Apart if menstruation is not regular women can face many health issues so if you such issue, you must immediately rush to doctor.

Some time we girls do not want to discuss about menstruation even if we are facing lots of problem either at working place or school or college. Actually it is not our fault, usually we are taught not discuss this in public as it is a dirty thing. This kind of teaching creates problem to women while at work outside from home. So we must know health issues related to menstruation. And personally I must say, if there is any scope for special leaves at work premise, it should be given to all women as we make the half percent of total population and if women will be healthy and happy, half of the nation will be happy.
