One of the 200 legislative assembly seats in Rajasthan is Suratgarh. Currently, the BJP’s Ram Pratap Kasnia is the MLA from this seat. Let’s discuss this seat in the MLA report card.
The Suratgarh legislative assembly seat in Sri Ganganagar district is considered quite significant. In 2008, Congress MLA Gangajal Meel was elected from this seat. Prior to that, in 2003, Ashok Nagpal of the BJP had won the election. In 1998, Congress candidate Laxmi Vishnoi secured the victory. Before that, in 1993, the BJP’s Amarchand Middha had won the election.
Speaking about the caste dynamics in the Suratgarh seat, there are 70,000 SC voters, 60,000 Jat community voters, 30,000 Kumhar community voters, and 20,000 Muslim community voters. Additionally, there are 20,000 voters from the Swami community, 18,000 voters from the Brahmin community, and 12,000 voters from the Vishnoi community. In the legislative assembly area, there are 12,000 Sikh community voters and 8,000 voters from the Arora community.
The local issues in the legislative assembly area include water for irrigation, crop damage, law and order, the drug trade, etc.
Former minister and four-time BJP MLA leader Ram Pratap Kasnia claims to have accomplished several tasks during his 5-year tenure in the legislative assembly area. According to Ram Pratap Kasnia, he, from his quota, spent nearly 30 crores on constructing the Over Bridge at Indira Circle in the city. He constructed the Railway Overbridge on the Sri Ganganagar-Hanumangarh four-lane road at a cost of around 20 crores. He worked on the Bharatmala road project and prepared the Khatu Point at a cost of 62 crores from the Central Government. He undertook work worth around 20 crores at the railway station under the Amrit Station scheme. Additionally, he carried out various development works worth 19 crores. The legislator says that he has undertaken several construction projects in villages, including roads and health centres.
However, Kasnia acknowledges that the absence of his government in the state prevented him from carrying out many works. Nevertheless, he claims to have carried out work similar to Congress MLAs.
Regarding MLA Ram Pratap Kasnia’s five-year tenure, when we spoke to the public, we received mixed reactions. Many people, while describing the BJP MLA’s tenure as satisfactory, said that MLA Ram Pratap Kasnia has carried out several development projects in the constituency. People also mentioned that he raised various issues related to the public, including the demand to create a separate district in the legislative assembly.
However, people also acknowledged that due to the absence of a BJP government, MLA Kasnia did not receive government support, which hindered him from executing several tasks, even if he wanted to.
On the other hand, a significant number of people expressed dissatisfaction with MLA Ram Pratap Kasnia’s tenure. They claimed that whenever people approached him for any work, he used the excuse of the government not being in power. They accused him of not addressing the public’s issues effectively.
In summary, the public’s opinion about MLA Ram Pratap Kasnia in Suratgarh does not appear to be overwhelmingly positive, as they do not consider the absence of a government as a valid reason for not fulfilling their expectations.
