Amritpal Singh, the leader of ‘Waris Punjab De’, currently incarcerated in Dibrugarh jail, has officially submitted his nomination papers for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Khadoor Sahib constituency, as confirmed by his legal representative on Friday.
Amritpal Singh, who remains in detention in Assam, lodged his nomination despite his confinement. His legal team had previously petitioned the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Thursday, seeking temporary release under the NSA provisions to facilitate his participation in the electoral process.
Contending for the Khadoor Sahib seat, Amritpal Singh will vie against formidable opponents, including Congress’ Kulbir Singh Zira, AAP’s Laljit Singh Bhullar, BJP’s Manjit Singh Manna Mianwind, and SAD’s Virsa Singh Valtoha.
The nomination window in Punjab remains open until May 14, with scrutiny scheduled for May 15, and candidates can withdraw their nominations until May 17. Punjab’s Lok Sabha elections are slated for June 1.
