Amit Shah launches Rs 524.78-crore key projects in Chandigarh

Union Home Minister confident of making Union Territory as world’s most advanced city

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday inaugurated several projects in Chandigarh at an estimated cost of Rs 524.78 crore.

While inaugurating the projects, Shah said: “Chandigarh is one of the planned cities of our nation and I am happy that the administration has been able to forward it to new dimensions of progress.”

Chandigarh got its first Rs 300-crore project Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) Complex, including buildings for ICCC, SCADA Systems (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) of all utility services, and Police Control and Command Centre (PCCC). These command centres shall act as the brain of the city.

The ICCC software platform shall be used to integrate major municipal and administration services including water, electricity, sewage, solid waste management, parking, transport, e-governance, and public bike sharing for effective monitoring of services.

It shall also be integrated with emergency handling services including 112 command centres to assist in efficient disaster handling by providing a uniform collaboration system across relevant stakeholders.

ICCC shall monitor the smart field elements like CCTV surveillance cameras wherein more than 2000 cameras shall be installed for real-time surveillance of traffic junctions and other important buildings of Chandigarh like water work, parks, government hospitals, community centers, parking locations, schools, on around 285 locations.

The Government College of Commerce & Business Administration in Sector-50 is now provided with the residential facilities to the students, the construction of a new boys’ and girls’ hostel is planned at a cost of Rs 18 crore.

The construction of 4th CTU Bus Depot-cum-Workshop at Raipur Kalan, Industrial Area, Phase-III, at a cost of Rs 94.48 crore for the 4th Bus Depot is proposed to be undertaken at Raipur Kalan, Phase-III, Chandigarh.

Two new High schools at a cost of Rs 22.80 crore are also in queue along with a new green and smart office building of Chandigarh Housing Board is under construction at a cost of Rs 60 cr. The building consists of two basements and seven upper storeys having a total covered area of 1,37,858 sq. ft.

The Milk Colony Dhanas, Rehabilitation Colony, Maloya, Police Houses Complex, Village Dhanas, 8448 houses of Rehabilitation Colony, Dhanas, Village Sarangpur, and Institutional Area of Sarangpur are located on the western periphery of Chandigarh.

The proposal was made to connect these areas with Main Water Works, Sector-39 by laying MS pipeline of 8 km length varying from 800 mm in diameter to 500 mm for rising main and 300 mm to 200 mm in distribution for Rs. 20.00 Crores. The total quantity of canal water to be supplied is 8.5 million gallons per day to these areas. A 9.50 Cr Football Stadium in Sector 17 has been completed.
