Amit Shah Kishtwar Rally: ‘Congress Attempting to Reignite Terrorism in J&K’

Union Home Minister Amit Shah addressed a rally in Kishtwar on the final day of campaigning for the first phase of the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections. During his speech, Shah accused the Congress party and its leader, Rahul Gandhi, of attempting to return the region to a state of terrorism.

As a senior BJP leader, Shah has consistently claimed that both the Congress and its ally, the National Conference (NC), are lenient on terrorism. He alleged that if this alliance comes into power, they intend to release individuals involved in terrorism and stone-pelting. These accusations were dismissed by NC Vice President and former Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah.

In his address, Shah stated, “Once again, efforts are being made to evoke support for terrorism here. The NC and Congress have even promised that if they win, they will release these terrorists. But I today assure you, as long as Prime Minister Narendra Modi‘s government is there (at the Centre), no one will dare to spread terrorism on India’s soil.”

He also paid tribute to the martyrs of the region and vowed to eliminate terrorism permanently. Shah reiterated that Article 370, which granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir and was revoked by the BJP-led government in August 2019, is now “history.”
