Amid snowfall, Met predicts J&K weather to worsen further

SRINAGAR: Snowfall has been witnessed in Kashmir valley for the second running day on Monday with South Kashmir recording heavy snowfall. Due to the continuous snow, the Srinagar-Jammu highway remained closed while air traffic also remained disrupted for the second running day.

Amid the snowfall, the Meteorological Department has said that weather will deteriorate from Monday afternoon to Tuesday afternoon and there will be more and more snowfall.

“From today afternoon, the weather system will start peaking, till tomorrow there will be snowfall. Then it will start receding from Tuesday afternoon and from 6th afternoon weather will start improving.” Met officials were quoted by the media.

According to the traffic officials and police control room, due to the heavy snowfall 4,500 vehicles are stranded at different places all along the highway from Srinagar to Jammu and said that snow clearance operations were going on.

Meanwhile, the University of Kashmir has postponed many slated examinations due to the heavy snowfall. According to the Kashmir University’s Controller of Examinations that the BG 6th semester examination (English paper) scheduled to be held on January 5, 2021 (Tuesday) stands postponed in view of the inclement weather conditions.

Similarly Cluster University has postponed all the scheduled examinations due to the heavy snowfall across Kashmir valley.
