The 4 and a half year old alliance of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) in Haryana seems to be on the verge of breaking. As Lok Sabha elections approach, senior leaders of both the parties are openly winking at each other. Due to which a see-saw situation has arisen between the two parties.

On one hand, BJP’s Haryana in-charge Biplab Deb said that BJP will contest elections on all 10 Lok Sabha seats. JJP national president Ajay Chautala said that he himself or his son Digvijay Chautala will contest from Mahendragarh-Bhiwani Lok Sabha seat.
After this, speculations are being made that BJP now wants to get rid of it before the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections to be held this year.

BJP in-charge Biplab Deb said, “All 10 seats will be contested on BJP’s election symbol Lotus.” Even now, only BJP MPs are elected on all 10 seats. No one should have any doubt on this. All 10 lotuses from Haryana will go to Modi.

Ajay Chautala said- BJP is doing its work and we are also working in the field. I will contest from Bhiwani-Mahendragarh Lok Sabha seat, but there are some legal hurdles, which efforts are being made to remove. These obstacles may be removed by February. If I don’t contest the elections then Digvijay Chautala will contest the elections.

A week ago, BJP’s core committee meeting was held in Panchkula. In this too, most of the BJP leaders asked to leave the alliance. The leaders said that contesting the elections alone is beneficial. We should get rid of JJP. After this, the rhetoric of the leaders of both the parties has intensified. However, the final decision regarding the alliance has to be taken by the BJP high command.

Seeing BJP’s stance of contesting the elections alone, JJP also started showing its attitude. The very next day after the BJP Core Committee meeting, JJP held a big rally in Karnal, the home turf of CM Manohar Lal. In which he asked the workers to be prepared for the Lok Sabha elections. Ajay Chautala announced Mission 2024 in this. By going to the CM’s home area and challenging the BJP, speculations have started whether this alliance is no longer just a formality.

For some time now, it has been the style of BJP that the party associated with them should break the alliance itself so that the blame does not fall on their head. The same has happened with Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) in Punjab and Shiv Sena in Maharashtra. Both these parties remained in alliance with BJP for a long time. But, in the end he himself broke the alliance. The same formula now seems to be applicable in Haryana. In which the top leadership of BJP is instigating JJP to break the alliance by making repeated statements about separate elections.

However, in the 2009 elections on Bhiwani-Mahendragarh Lok Sabha seat, Shruti Choudhary, granddaughter of former Chief Minister Bansilal and daughter of Surendra Singh, defeated Ajay Chautala, avenging her father’s defeat. Since 2014, Chaudhary Dharmbir Singh of BJP has been MP from here for two consecutive terms in 2014 and 2019. In the last Lok Sabha elections, BJP had won all the 10 seats in the state.

The support of 10 MLAs is from JJP. At present, 4 independent MLAs are openly with the government and HALOPA convenor Gopal Kanda has also announced to be with the government. Including these 5 MLAs, BJP is in majority position in the government. Apart from these, two more independent MLAs have indirectly supported the government. In such a situation, even if JJP leaves the party, it will not make any difference to the BJP government.
