Students in their final year at Dr Ambedkar Institute of Hotel Management (AIHM) protested outside the college gate after facing detention for low attendance, preventing them from participating in exams that began on November 21. Initially, a list released on November 2 included 46 students facing detention, but after a meeting with Principal Sitesh Srivastav on November 20, a revised list with 43 names was issued.
Protesters alleged bias, claiming that the college authorities favoured three students who were no longer on the list of those detained. Despite the authorities stating that 20% grace attendance was offered to each student, protesters argued that they didn’t need the extra grace to meet the required 75% attendance mark.
One protester shared concerns about a peaceful protest turning chaotic when police officials intervened, warning of legal consequences. The principal clarified that, following the meeting, additional benefits such as extra classes were provided to all detained students. He explained that three students were removed from the list as they met the attendance criteria set by the National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology.
