Actress Kasthuri Shankar Sent to Judicial Custody Over Alleged Derogatory Remarks

Actress Kasthuri Shankar, arrested on Saturday by a special team of Chennai Police, has been sent to judicial custody until November 29. The arrest follows allegations that she made derogatory comments about the Telugu-speaking community during a public event on November 3.

Police Inquiry and Court Proceedings

Kasthuri Shankar was taken to Chintadripet Police station, where she was questioned for over an hour. Later, she was produced before the 5th Metropolitan Magistrate Court, where Justice Regupathy ordered her judicial custody. The actress was subsequently sent to Central Prison for Women, Puzhal.

On her way to court, Kasthuri was heard chanting slogans of “justice prevail” and alleging that her arrest was politically motivated. After the court session, she expressed her dissatisfaction, stating, “This is expected. This is political vendetta.”

The case against Kasthuri was filed after a complaint from the All India Telugu Federation, led by Dr. CMK Reddy, on November 5, following her remarks at the public event. Police have charged her under four sections for the alleged comments. Kasthuri also appealed for bail, citing her status as a single parent, but the judge rejected her request.

Next Steps and Political Implications

Kasthuri’s arrest has garnered attention, with political ramifications already unfolding. The actress, known for her outspoken views, continues to deny the allegations, maintaining that her legal troubles are part of a larger political scheme. She remains in judicial custody as her case proceeds through the legal system.
