AAP, CONGRESS SMELL SCHOLARSHIP SCAM WORTH CRORES IN SOUTH MCD

If the AAP and the Congress are to be believed, a Rs 6 crore scholarship scam related SC/ST children studying under the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) has come to the fore.

At a meeting of the South Delhi Municipal Corporation House, AAP and Congress councillors accused officials in the Education Department, including the Mayor, of a scam worth crores of rupees.

In the meantime, the BJP has been demanding an account for Rs 26,000 crore of the Delhi Jal Board.

This ‘scholarship scam’ in the SDMC came to the fore when Leader of Opposition Prem Chauhan was seen demanding the suspension of certain officials who were allegedly involved in the scam, during the proceedings of the House. The stalled case of the scholarship scam is worth Rs 5.7 crore which allegedly happened in 2012-15 in the Central Zone of the South Delhi Municipal Corporation.

According to allegations, in the Central Zone of the SDMC, the Department of Education had fraudulently transferred crores of rupees of scholarship money from government accounts to personal accounts. This scholarship was being given annually to meritorious students of the scheduled castes and tribes in schools under the Education Department.

The Anti-Corruption Bureau is investigating the complaint by the Deputy Director of the Education Department of South Delhi Municipal Corporation, Dev Nath Mahato. Three of the accused in this case were also arrested on 19 February.

Leader of Opposition Prem Chauhan, during the SDMC’s House meeting, demanded the resignation of the Mayor, accusing the BJP of corruption. He categorically accused the BJP of corruption, saying that in the last nearly 14 years, corruption has been patronised by BJP leaders and the involvement of BJP leaders has also been equal in cases of corruption.

On this matter, Chairman of the Education Committee Mukesh Suryan told The Sunday Guardian that the Opposition is not fully aware of the matter. He said that this flaw came to light during the audit and those involved in these mistakes should be punished. Mukesh Suryan also said that it can also be a fault in the accounts.
