Shaheed Kulwant Singh, one of the five soldiers martyred in the terrorist attack, is a resident of village Chadik in Moga. According to information, Kulwant Singh’s father Baldev Singh was also martyred in Kargil war. And Kulwant Singh, son of Shaheed Baldev Singh got the job on behalf of his father and joined the job 14 years ago. He got married three years ago. Kulwant Singh has a one and a half year old daughter and a three month old son. He went back on duty after one month leave.
Out of the five troops killed in the Poonch terrorist incident, four were Punjabi. According to reports, among those killed were Lance Naik Debaish Baswal of Odisha, Sepoy Sewak Singh, Sepoy Harkrishan Singh, Havildar Mandeep Singh, and Lance Naik Kulwant Singh of Punjab.
“The Whitenight corps stand in solidarity with the bereaved families,” it said on Twitter.
The soldiers were deployed for counterterrorism operations in the region while they were attached to the Army’s Rashtriya Rifles regiment.
The incident happened after militants opened fire on the vehicle the soldiers were driving in Jammu’s Rajouri district, killed five of them and wounded another. Operations were started to find the culprits, but the attackers’ identities are still unclear.
