The incident was reported on 20 February in Karnataka’s Ramanagra district, the police said. A criminal threw acid on a minor girl for rejecting his marriage proposal. Officials on Sunday said the girl had recently rejected the man’s marriage proposal. As per the reports, the accused has been identified as Sumanth from kurupete in Kanakapura, who threw acid on a 17-year-old girl for rejecting his marriage proposal. The accused is a mechanic by profession and proposed to the girl for marriage but she rejected him and the girl burns on her face and eyes due to acid, said Superintendent of police (SP). The victim was sent to Ophthalmic Hospital in Bengaluru after receiving an initial treatment at the local hospital.
The case comes under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) against the accused, the police added.
