70 to 200 mm rain is expected in Odisha; alert issued for next 3 days

The Indian Meteorological Department on Thursday warned of heavy rains in Odisha for the next three days from July 22.

According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of heavy rain in the state from Friday, July 22. An orange alert has been issued for Bargarh, Sambalpur, Angul, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, and Puri districts.

Moreover for 23rd July, Orange Alert has been issued in 7 districts. Apart from this, a yellow alert has been issued in 15 districts regarding heavy rains. On July 24, an orange warning has been issued for 8 districts and a yellow warning for 10 districts.

Meanwhile, the situation is likely to worsen in Malkangiri, Koraput, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nayagad, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Buddh, Sonpur, and Deogarh districts of South Odisha. All these districts may receive rainfall of 70 to 200 mm.

Recently, the flood water released from the Hirakud water reservoir has reached the Mahanadi. Due to this the water level in Mahanadi has increased. At the same time, the Meteorological Department has warned that due to heavy rains, there is a possibility of flooding in the rivers. In such a situation, the Special Relief Commissioner has instructed all the District Magistrates to be alert.

The water level of rivers is also likely to rise due to incessant rains. Water may flood in low-lying areas. Therefore, the Special Relief Commissioner has written a letter to the District Collectors of these districts to stay alert.

According to the information, after this warning from the Meteorological Department, the District Collector of Ganjam district has canceled the leave of all the government employees of the district till July 30. Heavy rain is expected in Ganjam, due to which there is also the possibility of flooding. This is the reason that the Collector has canceled the leave of all government employees.
