The stranded 511 pilgrims of Gangasagar Mela has been rescued by the Indian Coast Guard at sea in two different ferries, off Kakdwip in West Bengal on Monday. Due to fog and low tide, 500-600 pilgrims have been stranded in the sea since Sunday night. However, at about 9:45 a.m., air cushion vehicles arrived, and at about 10 a.m., hovercrafts started evacuating people.
