A 65-year-old man was arrested on Thursday for allegedly killing a woman by slitting her throat in Mirzapur village. Police said both of them lived together in a hut and are monks.
According to cops, the accused, Nafe alias Khamai Nath, first informed police about the murder. To avoid suspicion, he told them that he went out to buy some household items and up on returning, he found Roshni Devi (50) injured.

Nafe is from Sonepat’s Gagana while Roshni was from village Khatkar. Both of them lived together in a hut near a cremation ground in Mirzapur.
“Nafe was the first one to inform us about the matter. Initially, he made up a story, but it was after interrogating him, he confessed that he killed her,” a police officer said.
He told cops that on Wednesday, he had an argument with Roshni, which escalated and he got furious. Subsequently, he attacked Roshni with an axe and then called police with a false story. The police said that the woman was found lying on the floor with blood around her. She was taken to a nearby hospital, where the doctors declared her dead. The duo used to clean the cremation ground.

An FIR has been registered under sections 302 (murder) and 201 (hiding evidence) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Pataudi police station on Wednesday. “The woman’s body has been sent for postmortem. We will be presenting the accused in the court and actions will be taken against him as per the law,” Mahesh Kumar, sub-inspector, additional SHO of Pataudi police station, said.

The parents of a 16-year-old student from Meritorious School in Sangrur cremated his body after seeking a comprehensive investigation into his suicide. Alleging a schoolteacher’s involvement in abetting the suicide, they claimed awareness of their son’s poor academic performance before his death. The police registered a case and promised the parents a thorough investigation.
