As many as 35 BRS leaders, including former MP Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy and ex-minister in the Telangana administration Jupally Krishna Rao, indicated their intention to join the Congress and met with the party’s top leadership on Monday.
The leaders of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi will formally join the Congress at a public rally in Khammam, Telangana, scheduled for the first week of July and likely to be attended by AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi. Reddy previously served as a BRS MP from Khammam in the Lok Sabha elections.
The development comes ahead of the state’s Assembly elections later this year. The leaders met with Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, former party boss Rahul Gandhi, and general secretary (organisation) KC Venugopal, as well as Telangana Congress chief KCR.
