3 years of ‘Awaam Ki Awaaz’: LG Sinha lauds public’s role in policy-making

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha dedicated the 3-year anniversary edition of the ‘Awaam Ki Awaaz’ program to the citizens of Jammu and Kashmir, recognizing their valuable contributions and commitment to the region’s development.

“Awaam Ki Awaaz, the people’s voice, completes 3 years today. Valuable suggestions from citizens have significantly influenced policy-making in diverse sectors. This program has strengthened Jan Bhagidari at the grassroots level and encouraged active participation in the nation-building process,” said the Lt Governor.

Lt Governor Sinha congratulated the people of J&K for their overwhelming participation in the recently concluded Parliamentary elections, noting the record voter turnout as a testament to the citizens’ unwavering faith in democracy and the constitution.

In his address, the Lt Governor paid tribute to the civilians martyred in the recent terror attack in Reasi and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. “Let me assure the people that those behind the attack will pay a very heavy price for their barbaric and heinous act. I appeal to the public to stay united and provide information to our Police force and security agencies to completely neutralize the terror ecosystem,” he stated.

During this month’s edition, the Lt Governor highlighted the contributions of citizens like Tarun Sharma and Sunaina Abrol from Jammu, and Kashmir’s Shabbir Ahmed Dar in promoting yoga and transforming it into a Jan-Andolan. “The stage is set for the International Yoga Day celebrations on June 21. Yoga is a holistic approach towards health, happiness, and well-being. It emphasizes a fine balance between mind and body,” he remarked.

The Lt Governor also lauded Naseema Banu from Budgam for her ‘zero waste’ food stall in Doodhpathri, which educates locals and tourists about natural and cultural heritage while promoting sustainable tourism practices.

He appreciated the work of glacial scientist Ulfat Majeed in researching glacier-glacial lake-climate relationships, commending her as a trailblazer in addressing climate change challenges. Additionally, the Lt Governor praised Malik Shugufta Nabi of Ganderbal for her efforts in aiding women in distress and inspiring others.

Highlighting the achievements of Udhampur’s Rita Devi, Kathua’s Tripta Devi, and Naina Gupta from Ramban, the Lt Governor noted their inspiration to rural women entrepreneurs.

He also mentioned Preeti, a female biker from Jammu, who educates and empowers young girls for careers in the armed forces, and Divyavasu Sharma, an IT expert from Jammu, who educates the public on cyber threats and the prudent use of technology.

Further, the Lt Governor acknowledged Ruhail Maqbool Sheikh, the “Water Warrior of Pulwama,” and Ritu Salathia from Jammu, a brand ambassador for J&K’s gaming industry.

He also shared suggestions from citizens like Rajinder Singh from Majalta and Manzoor Ahmad from Baramulla on Swachh Abhiyan, rural health, and waste management, and inputs from Anantnag’s Tabasum Zehra on girl child education, as well as Ahmad Thoker from Rajouri and Munish Badyal from Jammu on water conservation.

In conclusion, the Lt Governor called upon the citizens to come together to welcome the pilgrims of Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, the annual pilgrimage to the holy shrine, which will commence on June 29.
